The more luxurious 3-star Hotel Royal Picardie is situated on the outskirts of the small town of Albert.
The casual visitor may not appreciate that the Hotel actually straddles what was once No Man’s Land, when the Front Line of 1918 was pushed to the edge of Albert as the German army advanced towards Amiens.
The Hotel is located just ten minutes walk from the centre of Albert and the famous Basilica (of leaning statue fame). We have been using the Royal Picardie for both conducted and self-drive tours for over seventeen years. The rooms are just slightly on the small side, but on the plus side rooms have a separate bathroom (bath and over-bath shower) and separate WC. The new owners of the hotel are updating many of the rooms with some having lovely walk-in showers. Please also note that some twin-bed rooms may comprise a double and a slightly narrower (but full length) single bed. These rooms are also offered for triple occupancy.
The hotel Royal Picardie’s restaurant can sometimes be closed without warning, which can be a bit frustrating (for both us and our clients!). This said, the owners do from time to time endeavour to provide light meals/snacks and other alternatives. There are also a limited number of other dining options to be found in the centre of Albert which we will list in the advice which accompanies your guide material.
