A truly family-run 'Logis' hotel situated in the heart of the
historic WWI town of Albert - directly opposite the
famous Basilica (of leaning statue fame...)

The Hotel De la Basilique is a traditional medium-sized 2-star hotel situated right in the very heart of Albert, one of the main 'battlefield towns' of the Great War - and the Somme battle in particular.  Its location directly opposite the famous Basilica just can not be beaten.

We have been using this hotel for our conducted tours for over seven years. The reason for choosing this hotel is because it's a truly family-run  establishment, a factor which is very important to us. Hotels like the De La Basilique are so very different to the more modern 'chain' hotels, which are all well and nice, but can sometimes lack the true atmosphere of real France.   Didier Petit (above with his wife Sandy) has lived here since a child, where he watched his mother and father run the hotel - as Didier and Sandy's two young children now do likewise!

The hotel De la Basilique has single, double and twin rooms. All rooms have colour television (with an English channel) and en-suite facilities (some with bath, shower & WC, others just shower and WC).

If you are thinking of booking the Hotel de la Basilique as part of your self-drive battlefield tour then please bear in mind that the hotel is closed on Sundays and Mondays (but open for Sunday lunch).

A personal conducted tour?

We will also be pleased to arrange for the services of an independent English-speaking guide to collect you at your hotel and take you (or join you in your vehicle) on a one or two-day tour of Ypres and/or Somme battlefields. This will be a truly personal service and as such you will not be joining a group comprising other persons.  The tour we will arrange can easily focus on areas of specific interest to you, such as battlefields where soldiers from any particular country or regiment fought and died (especially helpful for visitors from Australia, New Zealand and Canada).  This service is included in the total cost you will pay, thus making your battlefield visit a seamless experience with everything arranged by us in advance.
